The 2020 Nobel Prizes award week started on Monday with the announcement of the winner of the field of physiology or medicine. The Nobel prize, which was started in 1901, is awarded for the outstanding work in the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, peace, physiology or medicine and economics.

From Rabindranath Tagore in 1913 to Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee in 2020, there are 10 Indian Nobel prize winners so far who have made the country feel proud. Abhijit Banerjee has won the Nobel prize for his outstanding work in economics last year.

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee Economist Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee won the most prestigious award on Monday with his French-American wife Esther Duflo and another American economist Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. He is the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

2. Kailash Satyarthi Kailash Satyarthi along with Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education. He is a member of the UNESCO and works towards providing Education for All.

Subramanyam Chandrashekhar One Of The Noted Nobel Prize Winners In Physics In India

Subramaniam Chandrashekhar was another physicist who had made India proud with a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983. He was also a nephew of the Nobel laureate, CV Raman.

He bagged the prize for the study for theoretical studies of the physical processes of importance to the structure and evolution of the stars. He shared the honour with William Alfred Fowler, another physicist.

His award-winning theory suggested that when the hydrogen that fuels stars start running out, they turn into a white dwarf. He also has under his name a scientific and physical constant, the Chandrasekhar Limit. He bagged his award while he was working with Chicago University in Illinois.

Chandrashekhar was born in Lahore in 1910, when it was a part of India, but it is now part of Pakistan.

Way back in 1913, when India was still a British colony, Rabindranath Tagore put India on the world map by winning the countrys first Nobel Prize. He was a poet, artist, and thinker and became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. List Of Asian Nobel Laureates

The Nobel Prize is an annual, international prize first awarded in 1901 for achievements in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. An associated prize in Economics has been awarded since 1969. Nobel Prizes have been awarded to over 800 individuals.

Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar Nobel Prize For Physics

Chandrashekhar was born in Lahore in undivided India and spent his working life in the United States, where he eventually became a citizen. He was an astrophysicist and, incidentally, a nephew of CV Raman. He shares his Nobel Prize with his fellow researcher for their work relating to the structure and evolution of stars. He even has a scientific and physical construct the Chandrashekhar Limit named after him. He joined the list of Nobel Prize winners in India in 1983.

Venkataraman Ramakrishnan One Of The Noteworthy Indian Chemistry Nobel Prize Winners

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan was the proud recipient of Nobel Prize in Chemistry for studies of the structure and function of the ribosome. He won the award along with Thomas A Steitz and Ada E Yonath for their studies on the structure and function of the ribosome.

Venkatraman was born in a family of academics in 1952. At the time of winning the award, he was working alongside MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge. Venkat Ramans study focused on ribosomes, which are a complex protein molecule produced in the cell.

Venkat Raman and other researches employed X-ray crystallography to find the structure of ribosomes. It is mentioned that his discovery has been a breakthrough in the production of antibiotics.

John Hicks shared the 1972 Prize in Economic Sciences with Kenneth J Arrow for general equilibrium theory and welfare economics. Hicks created widely used conceptual tools for the analysis of price mechanisms, technical change, and demand for money. He was suspicious of theory for theorys sake, the American idealisation of free markets and reliance on econometrics for contact with reality.

Hicks taught at the London School of Economics from 1926 after trying journalism at the Manchester Guardian. His pioneering work on general equilibrium theory was published while he was Professor of Political Economy at Manchester , after which he worked at Oxford. A close friend of the Manchester economic historian TS Ashton, he published A Theory of Economic History in 1969.
