B.Sc. Three Year Degree

The three-year General program is intended to provide diversified training in Science. The program provides students with broad exposure to the major areas of Science at the introductory level with a requirement for more advanced studies in one or more areas of Science.

This program is not intended for students who desire to practice in some field of specialization in the Sciences. Students with that intent are recommended to pursue the Honours or the four-year Major program.

Students are required to have the equivalent of high school Mathematics 40S and at least one of high school Chemistry 40S or Physics 40S.

B.Sc. General Academic Regulations

Entrance to Science from University 1: Transiting

Students may transit to the Faculty of Science from University 1, prior to Fall Term registration only. The transit function is available on Aurora Student. There are no fees for transiting and there is no application form required.

To be eligible to transit a student must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on 24 credit hours. Students who have completed more than 24 credit hours at the point of transit must have achieved a minimum Adjusted Grade Point Average of 2.00. The AGPA calculation will be on the best graded 24 credit hours at the point of transit.

Not my area but this is true of Tour de France winners. The men that win are usually very light weight and put out a higher power to weight ratio than their competitors in the mountains. The guys that win on the flat stages are big men that can crank huge horsepower but also weight a lot.

One reason the light weights perform better in the mountains is that they have more capillaries per cubic inch in their leg muscles.

You are focused on muscle and I am reporting whole body. It would be interesting to know what animals can power at higher PWRs than humans.

It means per pound, muscle can generate a lot of power.

It does, but it’s also kind of nonsense because fat, bone, and organs don’t generate any power. Power is force * distance/time = force*velocity = work / time. If nothing moves then you have no distance, velocity, work or power.

Power/weight matters in sports where weight is excess weight is harmful, so something like rock climbing. It ironically isn’t very useful in something like power lifting.

To move something from point A to point B, you need to produce a certain amount of energy.
