How I Study For Physics Exams

How much laboratory work will I do?

The completion of practical laboratory work is a compulsory requirement of A-Level Physics. Whilst the amount of time spent on laboratory work will vary through the course, approximately two hours per week is undertaken.

Can I take A-Level Physics in one year?

As an A-Level retake student, yes and if you have completed AS-Level equivalent studies outside of the UK and can clearly demonstrate high ability in physics and academic English, yes.

How To Ace Physics Class

It’s the start of a new school year for many students, and everyone, including the faculty, needs to get ready for some tough classesespecially while dealing with Covid-19. Although I’ve only been through one pandemic, I’ve been teaching physics for over 20 years, so I am going to give you my best strategies to help college students do as well as possible this year. These tips are focused on science courses, but many should be useful for other classes too.

Let’s get started.

The first things you need to consider are: Why are you in this class, and what do you want to get out of it? Sure, it’s very possible that this course is required. Or maybe you always wanted to learn about, say, quantum mechanics, so you enrolled out of curiosity and not practicality. But no matter why you are here, you need a goal. Are you trying to learn something, or are you trying to get a particular grade for your academic transcript?

Suppose you are on a football team. During practice, you start doing push-ups, because that’s what the coach told you to do. But are you actually going to do push-ups during the game? I certainly hope not. You wont win that way. But the push-ups will help you indirectly, because they will make you stronger.

In the end, you might even make some friends. That’s not such a bad thing, is it?

Neet Preparation Tips For Beginners

  • Tip 1 – Before you start preparation for NEET Physics, go through the entire syllabus. As per the syllabus, you can study and understand the concepts and answer questions.
  • Tip 2 – Prepare a timeline that gives all the subjects time. Do not ignore any topic, or give any topic excessive time. Your schedule should, however, provide flexibility if any topic needs more time than allotted.
  • Tip 3 – Divide the topic into several sections. Learn step-by-step. Visualize every concept. Draw diagrams to grasp the ideas correctly.
  • Tip 4 – Create notes of your preparation from day one. Do not be lazy. One of the best assets to clear NEET 2022 is having self-made notes.
  • Tip 5 – If you choose to join a coaching course, revise your notes after every class. That way, you will understand the concepts better. Make sure you achieve all your daily and weekly goals.
  • Tip 6 – Treat NCERT Physics as the bible for NEET Physics.

Coaching Or Self Study To Prepare Neet Physics

To ace NEET Physics, you have two methods you can seek – Coaching and Self-Study. Choose what you think will best suit your lifestyle and productivity levels according to the benefits of both methods.

    Benefits of the Coaching Method

Coaching institutes for NEET are ideal for those who are most productive in a formal set up and consistent routine. With a coaching method for NEET preparation, you can enjoy the following benefits –

    • A classroom set-up with desks helps students gain focus on studying.

    • The presence of fellow students can facilitate peer learning.

    • The fixed time duration of classes can help in maintaining a consistent study routine.

    • Coaching institutes offer classes for an ideal number of days, so there is less scope for overexertion or a low preparation level of students.

    • Classes will not have any major interruptions which can hinder learning.

    • Coaching institutes provide study materials so students will not have to spend time searching for them.

    • Teachers will always be present to help students understand concepts better and apply them appropriately to answers.

    • Doubts could be addressed immediately.

    • Some coaching institutes also offer mental support to students so that they do not burn out while preparing for NEET Physics.

    • Evaluation of mock tests by teachers can help students identify their strengths and weaknesses.

    Practice Free Response Questions

There are three different types of questions in the AP Physics 2 free response section. The first type consists of short-answer questions, one of which will demand a paragraph-length response. The use of the term paragraph-length response may seem vague, but it is actually a very specific designation from the College Board about the type of response expected from you. A handout from the College Board outlines that such a response should demonstrate your ability to communicate understanding of a physical situation in a reasoned, expository analysis. The readers who score your exam will look for responses that offer coherent, organized, and sequential description of the analysis using strong evidence from the course curriculum such as specific physical principles. Your argument should not include diagrams, graphs, equations, or calculations to support the line of reasoning unless specifically indicated, but instead should be based entirely on your strongly written analysis without unnecessary detail. The College Board summarizes that a successful response will analyze a situation and construct a coherent, sequenced, well-reasoned exposition that cites evidence and principles of physics.

    Chapter : Taking Examinations

Read the questions carefully: you dont get credit for getting the right answer to a wrongly read problem or for a part you didnt do because you overlooked it in the rush. Take it easy and dont start using your pencil until you have thought out just how to begin. A common practice of physics professors is to gauge the time to allot to a problem by giving the students five times as long as it takes another professor to get the right answer. This means that it is mechanically possible for a student to make a perfect score by spending forty minutes thinking what to write and only ten minutes writing during a fifty-minute exam.

Dont rush haste is likely to induce slipshod thinking. Work at a convenient pace but without wasting time.

Dont try to read a complicated or unnatural meaning into a simple question. If it is really vague, then ask the instructor what was intended . In essay questions or derivations, write legibly. The readers give credit only for what they can read and they do not spend much time trying to decipher chicken tracks or the faint marks made with very hard pencils. Do not cramp your thinking by cramping your writing. Use plenty of space and write clearly, preferably in ink if you are used to writing with a pen.

Ten minutes before the examination is over, take about one minute to check your work to make sure you have made no major blunder and to plan how you can use the remaining few minutes to the best advantage.

    What Are Tutors Looking For

Tutors are looking for enthusiastic and highly-motivated students with the ability to apply basic principles to unfamiliar situations. The language of physics is mathematics and formulating physical theories requires new mathematical structures. Therefore, the tutors are also looking for a good level of mathematical competence and the ability to formulate a problem in mathematical terms and then extract the physical consequences from the solution.

Keep Up With Reading And Studying

Physics is one of those subjects where falling behind gets you in trouble. This is because its generally a series of linked principles that build upon each other. As a subject, physics is more interlinked than most disciplines. In history, if you miss a few lessons, you might not learn about a certain war. In physics, youre lost for the rest of the course.

Take the time to keep up with assigned readings, practice problems, and homework as the content builds on itself. If you dont, youre setting yourself up for trouble!
