What Ap Physics Classes Are Offered

The AP Program used to offer three physics classes: AP Physics B, AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism.

The AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism course is by far the most technically complex of the AP Physics courses. Beginning with electrostatics, the course includes a detailed look at charges, electric forces, electric fields, electric potential, and capacitors. These concepts are then applied to an analysis of electrical circuits, including circuits with multiple sources of potential difference, real and ideal batteries, and transient analyses of circuits which include capacitors.

AP® Physics 1 is considered an introductory physics course, so it is a good choice for a variety of students. One the one hand, it is a good early course for students who are either starting their physics education and plan to go on to either of the Physics C courses.

On the other hand, it is also a good course for students who want to take a challenging AP® science course but dont necessarily want to major in science or engineering in college. Students who fall into this category typically choose to take the course later in high school.

AP® Physics 1 will cover both text based work and hands-on laboratory work. Students in this class will learn about systems, fields, force interactions, change, conservation and waves. If these topics interest you and you have taken Algebra II, you would be a good candidate to take AP® Physics I. Since you are not required to take AP® Physics I, you will want to explore other AP® courses to make sure that AP® Physics 1 is the right course for you. If the subject matter does not align with your interests and strengths, you should choose a different AP® course that interests you.

US Government asks 60 questions in 45 minutes, AP Psychology asks 100 multiple-choice questions in 70 minutes, and both World History and US History ask 55 questions in 55 minutes. You are responsible for more than one question a minute .

While the questions are often more straightforward than AP English questions you will have fewer blocks of text to break downyou will have to strike a balance between moving fast enough to answer as many questions as possible but not going so fast you make silly mistakes.

For free response, US Government gives 100 minutes for four responses . World History and US History require three short-response answers in 40 minutes followed by a 60 minute DBQ and a 40 minute essay.

While these times are variable, note that the longest you get for a response is 60 minutesand that’s for the ultra-complicated DBQ, which requires you to read and process multiple documents before weaving them together in a comprehensive essay.
