EDCs Oceans of Data Institute is building learning progressions for statistics and data literacy at different grades. Randy Kochevar, who directs the institute, said they are based on the acronym CLIP, meaning students learn how to use:
Complex, multi-variable data
Larger data sets than students need to answer any one question, so they are forced to sort and understand relevance
Interactively accessed data, rather than sample graphs just written out on paper and
Professionally collected data that forces students to think about how and why it was collectedand what biases may exist in the samples.
Finzer instead envisions a more holistic approach in which at least one class a yearbe it math, biology, or even civics or historyasks students to grapple with making sense of large data sets. Such an approach, he said, would make a huge difference, because it would mean when you came out of high school, data would not be foreign to you.

Which Math Classes Will Colleges Expect You To Have Taken
Like high schools, most colleges require applicants to have completed three years of math and recommend four years. Selective colleges often require four years of math, and some schools may also require the completion of particular math classes like algebra 2, geometry, or pre-calculus.

Because high schools offer many math classes at varying levels of depth, speed, and difficulty, the math classes you take and the grades you receive in them will be looked at closely by colleges to help determine your academic ability and how good a fit you would be at the school.

AP calculus examinations are designed by a development committee comprised of high school teachers and university faculty in consultation with statisticians and psychometricians who attempt to create examinations that meet accepted standards for technical quality . It’s not uncommon for people to wonder what relevance mathematics serves in their daily lives. In the modern world, math such as applied mathematics is not only relevant, it’s crucial. Applied mathematics covers the branches that study the physical, biological or sociological world.
