How To Measure Yourself For A Road Bike

Ridley X-Fire Review

Measure your height by standing upright against a wall with your shoes off. Be sure to look straight ahead and keep your shoulders back. Mark the wall above your head with a pencil, holding the pencil flat and parallel to the floor. Then use a tape measure to calculate your height from the floor up to that mark.

To find your leg inseam, stand with your back against a wall and hold a book between your legs. The books spine should meet your crotch. If youre alone, make a small mark where the spine hits the wall. Or a friend can measure from the top of the book down to the floor, in centimeters or inches.

Leg inseam is an accurate representation of the distance from the saddle down to the pedals and is important to get right for an efficient pedaling position.

Choose By Riding Style And Preference

If you’re a seasoned rider or you want to do more research in order to get the perfect fit, you’ll also want to consider your preferred riding style.

While the inseam measurement is still a great place to start, you can more easily decide between two sizes by looking at other bike-specific geometry measurements.

Based on how those measurements affect the bike, you can decide which of two sizes is better suited to how you ride.

How Does Road Bike Geometry Affect Sizing

A bikes geometry determines riding position as well as the bikes handling.

Race geometryRace geometry features a lower and longer riding position with a flat back and significant bend at the hips. This aerodynamic position has a lower center of gravity and offers more responsive handling, but can cause stress on the upper body over long distances.

Endurance geometryEndurance geometry has a more upright position with relaxed measurements designed for comfort and stability rather than aerodynamics. Riders can enjoy extended training sessions with less strain on their back, neck, and arms.

ReachReach, or the horizontal distance between the bottom bracket and the top of the headtube, affects how far you lean over to grasp the handlebars. This can be altered by using a shorter or longer stem. Stack is the vertical distance from bottom bracket to top of head tube and is a good measure of how high the handlebars are relative to your upper body. Reach combines with the stack to determine bike fit.

A short reach and high stack make for a comfortable, upright enduro geometry. A long reach and low stack is an extended, aero riding position. This is why you might hear of pros slamming their stem or removing all headset spacers to achieve the minimum stack height to force their bodies into a lower, more streamlined position.

Effective Top Tube Length

The modern sloped top tube design, measured using effective top tube length, affects the reach of a bike.

A longer top tube means there is more space between where you sit and where you place your hands which determines upper body posture.

Too long of a top tube and you will feel stretched out while a short top tube makes for a cramped feel.

Always on the forefront of innovative frame designs, Belgium’s Ridley continues to stay at the top of cyclocross podiums around the world with its latest collection of race machines. The Ridley X-Fire/Shimano 105 Disc Complete Bike was built to continue this tradition, as its efficient frame design, disc brakes, and reliable build kit deliver one of Belgium’s finest race-ready packages.

Ridley’s X-Fire Disc complete bike features a frame that’s been constructed from 24-ton carbon fiber and a full-carbon 4ZA Oryx fork. To manage the load forces from the new disc brake, 4ZA now uses a reinforced lower-leg design. This is beneficial in three ways. First, the massive legs guarantee that you won’t experience any lurching or torsion from the caliper. Additionally, the larger blades aid in absorbing any chatter, vibration, or shock from nasty terrain. And last, the 1-1/8 x 1-1/2in, oversized design provides unparalleled rigidity. Coupled with the massive head tube juncture, the Oryx fork provides nimble handling and an explosive sprinting prowess — perfect for the short spurts of power required after barriers.

The Ridley X-Fire/Shimano 105 Disc Complete Bike is available in the color Black/blue and in seven sizes from 41cm to 58cm.

Richmond Hill Popeyes Damaged In Early Morning Fire Multiple Agencies Respond

Blender3D – Creating a procedural Building with Blender 2.93 Geometry Nodes (TUTORIAL)

Richmond Hill, Ga. – Three businesses in Richmond Hill will be closed for the time being an early morning fire forcing them to shut their doors.

Emergency crews were battling a blaze all morning here at the Popeyes, Fuddruckers, and TA Travel Center off of I-95 and Coastal Highway. Richmond Hill Fire was the responding agency, and they say as soon as soon as they got on scene, they knew they were going to have to call in some other agencies for help.

We made entry through the front door and immediately called for mutual aid from Savannah, Chatham, and Liberty County, which they all showed up on scene to help out. That was a lot of help for us, Richmond Hill Captain Roland Evans said.

The fire was reported around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Evans says that they put out the fire on the inside of Popeyes but that was only half the battle. There were also parts of the roof burning- a stubborn fire to put out.

The fire crew stayed on scene for a couple hours after the initial blaze just to make sure everything was safe.

Sometimes you end up with hot spots in the roof, and we want to make sure everythings completely out. We dont want any rekindles. We dont like coming back to things like this.

Bryan County EMS says that one person at the scene was treated for injuries though they couldnt say what the injury was or whether or not the person was in one of the buildings.

The same cant be said for Popeyes and Fuddruckers.

Well be sure to update you when we get that information.

The Build Of The Ridley X

Ridley took a no-nonsense approach to putting together the X-Night 30: The Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-speed component group and 4ZA cockpit focuses on affordable performance, while the 4ZA Cirrus Comp clincher wheels keep a European flair to your ride.

Theres not much to say about Ultegra 6800. The stuff works once you dial in the front derailleur. Todays components perform so well that its mostly a matter of ergonomics and loyalty. Many racers love SRAM for good reason, and they tend to be lighter, but the Ultegra group, with the coated cables and long-armed front derailleur, shifts with incredible ease and stays quiet, with the front shifter trims and rubber front derailleur cage pads.

Our test bike ventured a bit from published specs of Fulcrum wheels, Rotor crankset and Challenge tires, something not unusual in the industry, and instead we were supplied with Clement PDX clinchers, an FSA Team Issue carbon crankset and 4ZA wheels coming as stock equipment on our version of the X-Night 30.

Braking was handled by the Avid BB7S brakes, with dual pad adjustments to keep the 160mm front and 140mm rear rotors spinning freely.

Before swinging a leg over the bike, there was only one item that caught our eye: The two side-by-side-bolt seatpost. Ridley and 4ZA know cyclocross, but weve had plenty of bad experiences with such designs that resulted in painful saddle positions. Would this post be any different?

Sizing Advisory Warning On Cross Bikes

ridley x night sizing

PostsPostsphardingThe stand over heights are quite tall and can be problematic. I ride a size 59.5 or size 60 road bike. Yesterday I took delivery of a size 58 Ridley X-Fire and it appears that it is one size too tall for me. When I straddle the bike I just barely clear the top tube. When I mount and dismount I have a hard time clearing the saddle with my leg. I am now offering my brand new, size 58 X-Fire frameset for sale at $1100 including continental US shipping and insurance.Lithuaniait sounds like you just need to work on your remount. standover height is such a minor detail. i have no clearance when i stand over my ridley but it fits me really good and I have no remounting issues. I believe the bottom bracket on my crosswind is even higher than the xfire unless i am mistakenPosts

The Frame Of The Ridley X

The top-shelf X-Night has typically been a model tailored specifically to top racers. Traditionally speaking, its aggressive, high bottom bracket, high-modulus carbon, and integrated, stiff seatmast made the bike race-oriented for aggressive riders on technical coursesalthough the last feature on that list also made it difficult to lend to a buddy or to resell.

Just prior to the 2013 World Championships in Louisville, Ridley redesigned its flagship X-Night, shedding the integrated seatmast, dropping the bottom bracket height a bit, and shortening up the wheelbase and head tube. The changes are in contrast to the direction Focus went with its Mares frame, but the interesting thing is that the frames have nearly met in the middle with similar geometries. Theyre not exactly the same geometries, and comparing the Ridley 56 to a Focus Medium, the Ridleys 56cm top tube is 5mm longer, its bottom bracket is 1mm higher at a 64mm drop, the head tube is 20mm longer, and the head angle is one degree steeper . All of these changes, with the exception of the head angle, are quite minor. Comparing the Ridley X-Night to the Raleigh RXC Pro, the geometries are also similar, with the Raleigh having a .5-degree slacker seat angle and 10mm shorter head tube.

On paper, the X-Night is closer to what we prefer and are used to, but only riding would verify whether the X-Night lives up to expectations.
