The Convergence group is a special interest group of the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration , but the expressed views here may not represent SEPI. As many have pointed out, most recently Marvin Goldfried in his 2019 American Psychologist article on consensus, the missing piece in psychotherapy integration has been a widely held understanding of how therapy works to foster change. The SIG was formed to take advantage of new science converging with traditional and recent thinking to help fill in what we are calling the common infrastructure of psychotherapy.
Although there are, of course, many differences and disputes within the field, the SIG Steering Committee believes the time is ripe for filling in longstanding knowledge gaps with more general principles that converge across many domains of thought and inquiry. We see our mission as identifying those principles and exploring how we might tie them together with existing theory into a coherent picture to address the following three questions:

Convergence Vs Linear Perspective
I choose to look at the concept of perceptual organization. Specifically, the idea of convergence perspective and linear perspective. Depth perception gives us the ability to judge distances and there are two types of cues involved. One type is binocular cues which uses both eyes to judge distances and perspectives. Convergence cues is categorized as a binocular cue since it involves the use of both eyes. Another cue used in depth perception is monocular cues which uses one eye. Linear perspective is categorized under monocular cues. These two types of cues have the potential to be easily confused as they both involve focusing on a point of convergence. However, these two cues are vastly different.
As mentioned above convergence is a binocular cue. When you use the convergence depth cue both of your eyes move together to focus on an object that is in close proximity. The further the distance of the object the farther apart your eyes are. According to the Psychology textbook by Professor Wede convergence cues are used on objects that are within 50 feet of us. An example of convergence that you can do is to try to look at the tip of your nose. You will be able to feel both of your eyes focusing on your nose. If you want to be able to experience the gradual process of your eyes converging place one finger at an arms width and focus your eyes on it as you slowly bring it closer to your nose and you should be able to notice your eyes slowly converging.

It’s said that life is how you perceive it, and perception describes just that. Perception is the creation of experience through our five senses. It is how we make sense of the world around us. While most animals have a vision and a way to see the world, how we see the world is much different, making us unique. There are many different theories in psychology and other sciences that try to explain how perception works. We shall look at a few of them. We all touch, taste, smell, and have other senses, and we interpret them in a way that is quite interesting.

- Light reflected from an object hits the retinas rods and cones.
- Rods and cones send neural signals to the bipolar cells.

Bipolar and ganglion cells gather and compress information from a largenumber of rods and cones. The rods and cones that send information to aparticular bipolar or ganglion cell make up that cells receptive field.

Why Do People With Ci Have Difficulty Focusing On Near Objects
To see objects as clear, single images, our brains merge information from both eyes. The process requires that the eyes converge and focus on the same point. As objects move closer to the face, the eyes must turn inward to maintain convergence and eye alignment. Most people can converge on objects as close as 2.5 centimeters from the nose. But people with CI can have trouble converging and maintaining eye alignment when looking at near objects. People with CI often experience blurry or double vision, eye strain, and discomfort when reading or doing near work activities over a long period of time.
