What Are The Most Difficult Ap Exams For Self

How hard is AP Biology? Tier list ranking for ALL AP science exams

Advanced Placement exams are an excellent way to make yourself stand out on college applications, obtain college credit while still in high school, and shorten the length and cost of your college career.

AP classes are almost as great as they sound, but theres a catchif you dont pass the AP exam for any given course, you wont receive the college credit. And this is a big catch, considering how difficult many AP exams are when it comes to self-study.

So, whether youre reading this article because you want to avoid or embrace self-studying for the most difficult AP exams, this article will give you a good start on what youll be facing.

  • Final Thoughts
  • Is It Worth Taking Ap Physics 1

The short answer is, yes, taking the AP® Physics I exam is worth it. But the most popular benefit to taking the AP® Physics I exam is that it can save you money. When you pass the AP® Physics I exam with a score of 3 or higher, you can receive college credit for that course while you are still in high school.

    Is Ap Physics Worth It

AP® Physics will most likely be a very challenging course, but it will also be very rewarding. If you can score high enough, you will be able to save time and money by receiving credit for physics classes while you are still in high school. Even if you dont get credit, taking college-level physics in high school will make your college physics classes much easier. Even though AP® Physics 1&2 are each a year long course, the content is covered in a single semester at most colleges.

Taking physics courses is one of the best ways to improve your math skills. You probably wont learn a lot of math that youve never seen before, but physics engages your math skills in many ways. First, you will get a lot of practice with math problems. This practice will help you strengthen concepts that you havent fully mastered. Second, applying math to physical systems shows the concrete usefulness of math, which adds context and makes math easier to visualize. Third, the complications of real situations often reveal gaps in mathematical understanding, that can be fixed as part of your physics education. Fourth, physics involves a lot of symbolic math, which will help you better plan, organize, and understand your math work.

    Ap Physics C: Mechanics

This course closely follows the curriculum covered in AP Physics 1.

However, because Physics C introduces calculus with the equations and formulas you need to know, it is much more challenging.

Like Physics 1, Physics C: Mechanics covers

    • Kinematics
    • Systems of Particles and Linear Momentum
    • Circular Motion and Rotation, and
    • Oscillations and Gravitation

Again, Physics C delves much deeper into these concepts than Physics 1.

    • And, unlike the other AP courses, most colleges will take at least a 3 on the Mechanics AP exam, though schools with prestigious engineering programs may require a 4 or 5.

Always check your target colleges to make sure you have a high enough score for credit and potential placement.

    Why Is E&m So Hard

Is AP Physics C Hard? Can You Really Crack It? Yes You Can!

For any given mathematical level, E&M is always considered more challenging than Mechanics. Its harder because its abstract and unfamiliar. E&M is the first physics class where you really have to make use of vector algebra and vector calculus. The concepts are simple once youve learned them, but tricky to pick up.

The Ap Exam: What To Expect

Like other AP exams, all four AP Physics exams consist of a multiple choice section, as well as a free-response section.

Both sections are weighted equally, so it is important to do well in both of them.

While Physics 1 and 2 are 3-hour exams each, Physics C exams are 90 minutes and can be taken in sequence for a total of 3 hours.

All exams approve a four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator for both multiple choice and free response sections, so you are graded on your comprehension of the various concepts, rather than on your mathematical skills.

    Can You Pass The Exam

Yes, you can pass the AP Physics C exam with flying colors, even though that might come with more effort. First, you have to make up your mind to pass the exam and drop any feeling of uncertainty.

This will help you clear your mind and put in the required work to master the class and take on the test.

Second, work your way through the material. Since there are not a lot of subjects to cover, you can easily draw up a skeleton of all that you need to cover.

Once you have that, you can take each one and tackle it squarely. The more robust your plan, the clearer you see the content at hand. As long as you have enough time and put in the effort, you should be alright.

Third, take your college course seriously. You can definitely do it on your own but taking advantage of your college course is a wise choice.

As you go through the materials, raise questions to your teachers on areas that you dont understand. When you work this way, youll quickly untangle any muddled up areas and as such, you can cover all your bases.

How Hard/fun/challenging Is This Course Is It The Right Course For Me

The Advanced Placement Physics course at the Polytechnic School is a daily, Calculus-based, introductory physics course. It includes a detailed study of classical mechanics the first semester, and a lengthy exploration of electricity and magnetism the second semester. Topics not covered in this course, unfortunately, are optics, relativity, and quantum mechanics. By the end of the course, students will be well-prepared to take the AP Physics C examinations offered by the College Board in May of each year.

This is a really hard class for most people. It’s difficult because the material can get kind of strange, the math can be kind of funky, and we cover material really, really quickly. Lectures in class attempt to cover as much material as possible, but you can expect to spend a lot of time on your own and with friends doing homework, puzzling over sample problems, and being frustrated. It’s all part of the fun!

Advantages to taking AP Physics: You’ll be preparing yourself for college by challenging yourself with one of the most difficult courses Poly offers, you’ll be making your college life a lot easier should you need to take a physic class in college, you’ll get to work with other great students , you’ll learn what Calculus is actually good for, you’ll enhance your transcript and grade point average, …

If you haven’t yet taken Calculus BC, you should be concurrently enrolled in Poly’s Calculus BC course.

Hi, so im plannin my schedule for next year and im not sure if im gonna like ap physics. im taking physics honors rite now and i don’t hate physics but i don’t love it. im getting an A in the class. i wanna know if i should take ap physics c mechanics? can someone who’s taken that class tell me the amount of homework, the score they got on the ap exam, and if its a lab-based class. i’d appreciate any advice given! thanks in advance

I’m in physics B, and our teacher sometimes gives us Physics C mechanics multiple choice questions for practice. The majority of Physics C multiple choice questions do not require calculus at all and are the same as Physics B multiple choice mechanics questions.

Also, I’m in physics B, and it is definitly not a very lab based course, not at all. Physics C won’t be any different, most likely even less lab based than physics B.

As for hardness, that is so subjective. So people find physics and calculus easy, others find it impossible, If you are good at math, Physics C will probably ok for you.

Getting Insights From Previous Examinees Performance

Before jumping to the statistics, let us first talk about how the exams are rated. Below is the 5-point scale scoring for any AP® exam as mandated by the CollegeBoard:

    • Score of 1:;No Recommendation
    • Score of 2:;Possibly Qualified
    • Score of 3:;Qualified
    • Score of 4:;Well Qualified
    • Score of 5:;Extremely Well Qualified

The advantage of taking AP® Physics C exam is that many colleges grant credit and placement depending on their cut-off score. Most colleges will require a student to have a minimum score of 3. If you already have a target university, go to the CollegeBoard AP® Credit Policy Search. Key-in your top-3 target universities and see your target score for yourself. If you can nail it, youll save tuition and credit fees as well as get a head start on your college course.

Now its time to look at the numbers.

For AP® Physics C: Mechanics, 53,000 high school students took the exam. Almost a third of the students, 30.2% to be exact, earned a score of 5; 27.4% of the students earned 4, and 18.5% of the students earned 3. Altogether, 76.1% of the students are in the safe zone, that is, they have the chance to be granted credits in college. The mean score for the exam is 3.539, which is not bad at all.

A Possibly More Reliable Indicator: 5 Rate

Since pass rates don’t actually tell us much, what about the 5 rate? Remember, a 5 is the highest possible AP score . Shouldn’t we be able to find the hardest AP tests by looking at the exams with the lowest 5 rates?

Below is a table with all the AP exams, this time ranked by the percentage of test-takers who got a 5 in 2021.

    Exam Name
    English Literature and Composition 5%

Source: College Board. For language rates, “Total Group” includes all students, while “Standard Group” includes only those students who didn’t indicate they speak this language at home or spent more than four weeks studying it abroad.

*These scores are based on score distribution data from 2020 AP tests. Preliminary data on these AP test score distributions is not yet available for 2021.

The 5 rate is, in fact, a decent way to spot some difficult exams, including AP English Literature and Biology. They both have very low 5 rates .

But on the flip side, a relatively easy exam, AP Environmental Science, has a low 5 rate of 6%. Furthermore, some decidedly hard exams, like Chinese, Calculus BC, and Physics C, have very high 5 ratesup to 23%+ for Chinese!

In other words, just looking at 5 rates doesn’t tell the whole story, though some other articles have assumed that.

This is why the best way to find the hardest AP exams is to focus on the ones with the most material to coveras well as the most conceptually difficult topics, which we will do below.

    Which Class Suits My Needs

To best plan out your class schedule, you should consider what you want to major in and the colleges you plan to apply for.

    • For instance, it may not be wise to take the AP Physics 1 exam if none of the colleges that admit you take accept it as college credit.

Likewise, if youre just looking to fill a few credits in science and physics doesnt relate closely to your major or career, you may prefer to choose AP Physics 1 or 2 over the more difficult AP Physics C courses.

    • Your math placement is equally important in deciding. If you arent taking calculus in high school, your Advanced Placement options narrow to just Physics 1 and Physics 2.

If you want to take either or both of the Physics C classes, make sure that you are on track to take an AP Calculus class as well.

Is Ap Physics C Hard Can You Really Crack It

Is AP Physics C Hard? What do you have to do to ensure you get a 5 on this test?

These are some of the questions that you may have as you read this article. And I hope Ill be able to answer this for you, so keep reading.

Students who have taken the test or are about to take the test claim that this subject is hard due to how its structured compared to similar ones.

The underlying truth is that its hard. But that doesnt mean its not possible to get an excellent grade on the test if you know what youre doing.

Before going into the intricacies of the test and what you need to do to come out with a good grade, lets answer this question:

Which Is Better Statistics Or Calculus

In general, statistics has more real-world applications than calculus, since it is a part of everyday life. Calculus is more abstract, and incorporates more spatial and visual concepts from geometry; therefore, students who did not do well in or did not particularly like geometry may not like calculus either.

Is Taking Ap Physics C Worth It

This class is also well worth taking for those of you who plan to go into medicine This is because AP Physics C: E&M will fulfill the medical school requirement of taking calculus-based physics. You might also want to take this class if you look forward to going into engineering or higher-level physics!

    Think About Your Overall Schedule

(1 of 2) Mechanics – Review of all Topics – AP Physics C

How well you do in a hard AP class could also depend on your schedule. For example, AP Biology might be more feasible your sophomore or senior year since you won’t be worrying about the ACT/SAT. However, if you take it junior year, you might have a hard time balancing ACT or SAT studying with the AP Biology class.

Also consider other classes, your extracurricular commitments, work schedule, and family commitments before signing up for any of these AP classes. You don’t want a tough AP class to overload an already busy schedule.

Along the same lines, do not feel pressured to overload on AP classes in general. More is not necessarily better, even if there is pressure at your school to take 5 AP classes in one year. It’s better to get two 4s than four 2s! And it’s better to take AP classes that are interesting and meaningful to you.

Option : Ap Physics 1 Then Ap Physics 2

The College Board says taking Physics 1 and 2 provide a solid physics background for future pre-med, geology, and life sciences students. They also say it’s a good option for students attending colleges where they will have to fulfill a science requirement but will not be studying science as their major.

If your school teaches AP Physics 2 but not AP Physics 1, you can just replace AP Physics 1 with whatever introduction to physics course your school offers. Don’t jump straight into AP Physics 2it’s meant to be a second-year physics course!

If your school teaches AP Physics 1 but not AP Physics 2, you could take Physics 1 and then take another natural science course , a science elective. You could also consider taking AP Physics C if your school offers it.

Which Exam Is Available To You

Many schools do not have the resources to offer all four classes, and if they dont, they are more likely to offer AP Physics 1 or 2 than AP Physics C, and more likely to offer Mechanics-based classes over E&M-based classes. Additionally, AP Physics 1 is widely considered significantly easier than AP Physics 2, so even if you already took and enjoyed AP Physics 1, make sure you look over some topics and problems from AP Physics 2 before signing up for it.
