    Passage:

    The heme enzyme indoleamine 2,3 dioxygenase catalyzes Reaction 1, the first and rate-determining step of L-tryptophan metabolism, and is an important enzyme of the human immune system.

    Reaction 1

    The IDO-catalyzed oxidation of Compound 1 by H2O2 does not occur. However, researchers have recently discovered that IDO-catalyzed oxidation of indole by H2O2 does occur.

    Under the conditions employed, the number of catalytic turnovers appeared to stop at roughly 100, on average.     You may be wondering just how much physics you will see on the MCAT? Your physics knowledge will come into play within the first section of the MCAT: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. According to the AAMC, you can expect approximately 25% of the questions in this section to relate to introductory physics.

    How much introductory physics is on the MCAT?

    What do we mean by introductory physics? You will not be using overly complex physics equations on this section of the MCAT, but rather, you will need to be able to apply physics concepts from your two-semester introductory level university physics course to demonstrate a broad understanding of the dynamics within living systems. You can expect to see physics related questions that are passage-based as well as a few stand-alone discrete physics questions.     How To Study For The Mcat

    Question: Im trying to study for the MCAT this semester. How much time should I be devoting each week to studying?

    Answer: On average nationally, students study for about 12 weeks for about 20 hours per week. You should be spending at least a couple of hours per day during the week, with more concentrated time on the weekends.     First and foremost, rounding and scientific notation is something 130+ C/P scorers recommend to get very comfortable with. Simply because it makes doing the math in problems a lot easier.

    Generally, however, you wont find complicated math problems on the exam. Theyre usually very simple and one-step problems. Equations youll need are also simple like f=mg or e=hv, etc. When you catch yourself doing some complicated multi-step problem that takes more than a minute, consider that a red flag to reassess your approach.

    Also, a lot of top scorers claim that knowing units is absolutely necessary. Its claimed to be one of the most important skills to have on this section.

    Get comfortable with converting units. To the point where even if you dont remember an equation you require, convert units until they match the units of the answer options . Write out the units every time.

    A lot of the math requires dividing by negative exponents or multiplying different units together. With the time pressure, its easy to get worried if the answer you got isnt included in the answer choices. Which is why its important to be able to convert those units with ease. Also know the prefixes like centi, tera, pico, etc.
