Right now however, I’m afraid there’s not much you can do other than just taking the risk.

ZapperZ said:Actually, I don’t think it is for “freshman” who is just starting out trying to learn the subject. It is an excellent text ONCE you have an understanding of the basic principles. The text is not pedagogically strong, but it is rich in the material it presents.

I’m Bad At Math But Fascinated With Physics
My dad is really abusive and discourages me a lot. In high school I mentioned that physics seems cool, and he told me that to be a physicist, I would have to be like his college friends who ‘started out in the senior level classes at their first semester.’
It made me feel bad so I stopped thinking about it.
Recently I’ve began to realize that physics and math is like reading music: learning the basics can be very boring, but after a certain point it becomes beautiful.
As a result I’ve become somewhat enamored with the idea of studying physics. I’m just worried because the people I know who are actually studying physics all seem to be way ahead of me. Due to medical problems I haven’t had the best GPA, and my record looks weird.
That said, I have the rest of this year to work on my skills and a solid 7 semesters of college after that.
Do I have a shot? This: seems reasonable.
I’ve always loved philosophy, and am starting to see physics as a means to get answers to some questions about reality that might be more practical than the liberal arts. In a lot of ways I feel similar to this woman:
At the same time, if it’s really THAT difficult and THAT competitive as my dad was saying, I don’t think it would be a good idea for me to pursue.
That said, in the case of math, that language is really not my native tongue.
