Is Statistics Easy In High School

Is Calculus 2 Harder than Differential Equations?

Stats at an HS level is probably more focused on learning concepts and applying them rather than hundred-page practice problems but the caveat is that learning those concepts will sometimes require you to think in particular ways that a pre-algebra class won’t. You may find it easier, you may find it harder.

What Is The Lowest Math Class In College

Students who start at the lowest level of remedial math may otherwise face a long slog through three or even four remedial courses in arithmetic, beginning algebra and intermediate algebra. And that’s before they can even get to the first college-level math course, generally college algebra or pre-calculus.

It Depends On What You Already Know

How difficult elementary statistics is for you will depend largely on what you already know.

If you already know significant chunks of the material then you shouldnt find the class to be too difficult. Whereas, if you have not studied much statistics then there will be a lot of new concepts for you to learn but it will still be achievable.

Most elementary statistics classes have college algebra as a prerequisite. This is another class that students tend to struggle with. However, most people find elementary statistics to be easier. If you did well in college algebra then you should also do well in elementary statistics if you put enough effort into it.

Is Statistics Easier Than Algebra

Algebra concepts are much easier to grasp, Stats concepts are harder to grasp but the work itself at an INTRO level stat class will be easier as most of it is just memorizing a bunch of formulas and plugging them in. So, in terms of difficulty level, stats is obviously a notch higher than just algebra.

In math, graduate students have to choose between theoretical mathematics or applied mathematics. Statistics tends to be a more applied field of study, but there is also a theoretical field of statistics as well as a great deal of math theory to learn for a graduate degree. degree in applied or theoretical mathematics.

Can I Go From College Algebra To Calculus

To succeed in the first semester calculus, typically known as calculus 1, students have to have a strong foundation in algebra and pre-calculus. Typical college prerequisites for calculus are college algebra 1, college algebra 2 and pre-calculus.

Adapting My New Approach

I came up with a new plan:

I will not read a mathematics textbook. I will not do any MOOC either. The reason is: both of these come from academic standards designed for graduate studies . People in academics are already experts on their subjects, they had been teaching those for years and hence the MOOCs/books written on the same are one or two semester-long at minimum. What about a guy who does not know anything about those subjects and does not have a semester or two to learn?

All of us are trying to break into data science in this 4th industrial revolution. We are hard-pressed for time, we dont have 3 years. We need to get up and start producing stuff as soon as possible . So that is why we have to come up with new ways of learning for the 21st centurys business requirements. Cameron Warren has explained it better in his blog-post Dont Do Data Science:

To be honest, I have the uttermost respect for academia. Some of the greatest discoveries have come from academic institutions. In fact, I still have a desire to become a researcher in academia, primarily because it is not run by commercial interests. I want to do a masters and then a Ph.D. in machine learning . I think the development of humanity depends on academia as much it depends on businesses bringing technology to solve problems. That said, everything has a time and a place, and right now my need is for quick but fundamental learning.

Overall, most of the students who took the class found the AP Statistics difficulty to be fairly average for an AP class. Its definitely not a class you can coast through, but if you put in the time to learn the concepts, most people didnt find the class or the exam overwhelming or overly difficult to do well in.

Is Trig Harder Than Statistics

Strictly speaking, statistics is not mathematics. If you were choosing between a course in MATHEMATICAL statistics and trig, and you want the easier course, I would definitely say trig. Easy is relative, if youre relatively new to mathematics, trigonometry, and statistics, you need to get used to it.

How Can I Pass A Statistics Exam Without Studying

I always recommend studying for your exams, but if you need a way to pass without studying, then make sure you:

  • Pay really good attention in class
  • Attend every class lecture
  • Work through the in-class problems with your professor, aka, dont just watch and listen, actually put your pencil down on paper and work the problems with them
  • Do all your assigned homework problems
  • And honestlyhave a natural talent at math
  • Truthfully, its going to be very challenging to pass a statistics exam without studying.

Its simply not possible, in my experience, unless youve had experience with these types of problems before in high school or even middle school.

So rather than try to take the easy way out, study.

Itll pay dividends later in the semester when you arent scrambling to find ways to earn extra credit or emailing your professor the day final grades are due begging for a grade bump from a D to a C.

    You Will Need To Study

Regardless of whether or not you have a solid foundation in math and statistics it will still be necessary for you to study for the class. The reason that many students struggle with elementary statistics is that many of them do not study outside of class time which is not enough to do well in the class.

However, if you do study throughout the semester you will be much more likely to do well in the class. By studying throughout the semester it will be easier for you to understand what the professor is teaching, you wont have to cram the night before the exams and you will retain the information more effectively

    Getting Help From An On

    Master

Going to your professor for help can be quite nerve wracking or may be challenging if you have a busy schedule that doesnt fit your professors office hours.

Getting a tutor, either on-campus or off-campus, can be a great flexible option and allows you to get help from someone whos already taken the class before or well-versed in the subject.

If you have to pick whether to go to an on-campus or an off-campus tutor, I would choose to go to an on-campus tutor first.

    Why?

    • You pay for on-campus tutoring services in your tuition and fees, so this is a free service you can take advantage of
    • On-campus tutors are required have had made an A in the course, so they truly know what theyre doing
    • Some on-campus tutors are even graduate students, like myself, so they are well-versed in the subject they are tutoring
    • Tutors are students themselves, so they tend to be more empathetic and understanding about your struggles in statistics and in college

However, if on-campus tutoring is not an option, for whatever reason, you can find an off-campus tutor by asking your friends and family members, looking a bulletin boards posted around campus, or through a simple Google search.

Why Should I Major In Statistics

This is Why Physics is Harder Than Calculus #shorts

A statistics major prepares students to use data to confront real-world problems. Statistics are relevant to topics ranging from disease prevention to storm prediction, and learning how to collect and break down complex information can help majors contribute to public policy, business decisions and more.

How To Get Help For Statistics

If you currently are struggling in a statistics class, I would highly recommend getting help before its too late.

When it comes to getting help in your statistics class, you have several options:

  • Get help from your professor
  • Get a tutor on-campus or off-campus
  • Use a service like Chegg Study
  • Watch YouTube or Khan Academy videos
  • Use any help features in your online homework tool

How Not To Forget What You Learn

While you learn all the above by reading and watching and solving problems. You will soon forget 8090% of it in a week or so. The only ways to make learning permanent are:

  • Use it daily in your work
  • Revise with a fixed schedule
  • While #1 may not be possible for you are busy building data science projects. Same I can say for #2. yes, you can revise like I put up a fixed schedule in my school years:

    • Revise what you learned this week by end of the week
    • Revise every week + previous weeks
    • Revise whatever you learned at the end of the month
    • Revise every month + previous months

This worked in school but now in professional work environments, it does not. The only method that works with me now is method #1. The curse of self-study to become a data scientist is that you cant use everything you have learned. So I had to devise method #3 using the Feynman Technique.

    • Once you learn a topic. Use the Feynman technique next
    • Put the heading/title of the topic on a list
    • At end of the week, check your list and use the Feynman technique to explain all topics on the list

I dont think you will need monthly revisions.

    Is Statistics Easy To Learn

    Answered: Calculus Question

It may be difficult at first, but it is just like learning a new language once the basics are understood and practiced, it becomes much easier and almost second nature over time. Statistics does not deserve the bad reputation that it has been given because at its core, it is not a very difficult class.

Which Is Better Statistics Or Calculus

In general, statistics has more real-world applications than calculus, since it is a part of everyday life. Calculus is more abstract, and incorporates more spatial and visual concepts from geometry therefore, students who did not do well in or did not particularly like geometry may not like calculus either.

Read The Textbook Before Jumping To The Problems

Many students will jump straight to the homework problems before reading the relevant chapter from the textbook. This is a mistake since the questions will be based on what is in the chapter and the professor will likely have missed some sections from the textbook.

Instead of jumping straight to the homework problems it would be more effective for you to read the relevant chapter first and then to try to solve the questions from the book after.

You Dont Need A Lot Of Math For Data Science

I guess the experience of one person should not be enough to convince you that we dont need much math for data science.

Hence I found a good blog-post by Josh Ebner of Sharp Sight Labs. he explains the difference between Junior and Senior data scientists, the math you need for data science foundational skills, the difference between data science theory and practice, etc. You should read it:

This was the what of this post. Next, we will talk about the Why and How.

It Will Depend Largely On The Professor

American Takes British A Level Maths Test

How difficult college elementary statistics and most other college classes will be for you will depend largely on the professor that you take the class with.

The professor will usually dictate the pace of the class, the scope of the exams, some will tell you to know everything from the text and others will give you a study guide.

Before selecting the class it would be worthwhile to look at what other students have said about the professor on ratemyprofessors.com. Make sure to schedule your classes as soon as scheduling opens since the highest-rated professors have their classes fill up quickly.

Prepare For Elementary Statistics In Advance

Another thing that you can do is to work through the material before taking the class. By doing so it will be much easier for you to understand what the professor is teaching and you will be much more likely to get a high grade in the class.

I would recommend that you watch the following playlist before taking the class. You can find it here.

    Why Are Statistics So Hard

Why is statistics so hard? There are a lot of technical terms in statistics that may become overwhelming at times. It involves many mathematical concepts, so students who are not very good at maths may struggle. The formulas are also arithmetically complex, making them difficult to apply without errors.

    Previous Math Courses Taken

As we mentioned, you should pay attention to the strengths that you have when it comes to math.

However, it is also essential to look at the previous math classes that you have taken.

Chances are you have taken all of the basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry courses before looking into statistics and calculus.

You may have even taken a pre-calculus class to start to prepare yourself for these more advanced concepts.

Take a look at the math courses you have taken through the years and analyze and compare which were the easiest for you.

Clearly, factors like age and the teacher will impact what you thought of a class, but you should have a general idea as to which classes stood out among the best.

If you have not taken pre-calculus, you may want to start there before signing up for calculus.

If you have not taken algebra, then you should do so before signing up for statistics.

Try to follow the natural progression of the math-related curriculum when working to get to these higher levels of math.

If you have been on a calculus-related path for quite some time, stick with it and continue to grow your skills in this area of math.

Math is such a broad subject it can make sense to choose an area where you excel and keep getting better at it.

Some mathematicians have basic thinking strategies, and others will understand more advanced concepts.

With entry-level statistics, all you need is some formulas and the ability to plug and play.

    Is College Statistics Hard

    PPT

Statistics has gotten a reputation for being a very hard class, especially when taken in college, because it combines math concepts in order to form an analysis of a data set that can be used to understand an association in the data . Some of the individual concepts included in statistics are difficult but statistics as a whole is not it is simply a tool that can be used to answer questions one has about a data set. Given this, statistics can be applied to almost any area of study, it is a vital course to understand. There are several reasons why college statistics is perceived to be harder than it is and I will be running through why it is deemed hard, how it compares to other math classes like algebra, how hard statistics is in college, and why the class should be taken in college by most students.
