Because everyone whos taken a math class before you and struggled, you think that this is going to be your fate as well.
This can be especially crippling for students with low self-esteem and self-confidence. Either they hear it from students they think are brighter than them or they hear it from students they feel marginally superior to but still place themselves in the same general category of ability.
All Jobs Are Essential
The world that we know today is based on a tightly set system of cogs and gears of each individual person holding up the world. If one job ceases to exist, soon all jobs will crumble in a domino-like effect. Even the jobs that we think have the least importance like janitors and cleaners, actually, hold a great weight in our society and without them, society wouldnt function properly with filth, dirt, and grime being omnipresent. Though in the old days, people were caged to only a few occupations fixed by their parents and those around them, and only a few were able to break the shackles of these social norms. But nowadays every job has thousands of creative outlets where you can plug your unique mindset into doing what you love while also supporting our great Earth. So to conclude, yes the world is overly focused on work and walks a tightrope between passion and insanity but this drives people to expand their horizons and try new stuff which in turn actually helps our world progress, evolve and solve 21-century problems.

While it may seem like math problems like the ones above have no real use in life, this couldnt be farther from the truth! Math is incredibly important in our lives and, without realizing it, we use mathematical concepts, as well as the skills we learn from doing math problems every day. The laws of mathematics govern everything around us, and without a good understanding of them, one can encounter significant difficulties in life.

Why Is Math Easier For Some Kids Than For Others
The sooner kids stop counting on their fingers, the better they are at math later in life.
Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine found that when kids begin processing mental math, the brain reorganizes itself to use its short-term memory center, the hippocampus.
The results, which were in Nature Neuroscience, suggested that switching from procedure-based strategies like use of counting to memory-based retrieval methods offers a more stable improvement in problem-solving skills in the long run.
Vinod Menon, senior author and Stanford Psychiatrist, equates the change to providing a scaffold for learning and consolidating facts into long term memory in children.
Mann Koepke of the NIH, who funded the study, said that if the childs brain does not have to labor over simple math, there is more short-term memory space to learn new concepts, so they catch on earlier and faster. It appears they have a competitive advantage because of the cognitive structure, and are more likely to outperform their peers.
Overall, activity in regions associated with counting, the prefrontal and parietal, was reduced, but the number of connections made by the hippocampus had greatly increased. With more information being sent to long term storage sooner, a child will have built a better schema for mathematical knowledge, says Menon. She concludes the study is a key launching point for future understanding of math-based learning disabilities.

I’ve been teaching at Mathnasium since early 2016. Here’s my take on why some kids struggle with math and how they can turn it around to become confident and successful math students.
1. Youre either right or youre wrong.
This is one of the most frustrating aspects of math for young minds. When it comes to most things in life, theres some gray area. People arent good or bad. Rules can often bend. But in math, thats almost never true. 1+1 will always equal 2. The square root of pi will never change. And sometimes, it may feel overwhelming. It may feel like you need to have everything memorized, the way you would in a history class. That isnt how math works, though. Math works best when you understand the rules, and make sure to follow them.
2. Even when youre doing it right, you might still be wrong.
3. Math builds on itself.
4. Understanding the method but not the reason leads to forgetting.
5. A C is not a passing grade in math.
6. Teachers dont have enough time.

I was a wayward kid who grew up on the literary side of life, treating math and science as if they were pustules from the plague. So its a little strange how Ive ended up nowsomeone who dances daily with triple integrals, Fourier transforms, and that crown jewel of mathematics, Eulers equation. Its hard to believe Ive flipped from a virtually congenital math-phobe to a professor of engineering.
One day, one of my students asked me how I did ithow I changed my brain. I wanted to answer Hellwith lots of difficulty! After all, Id flunked my way through elementary, middle, and high school math and science. In fact, I didnt start studying remedial math until I left the Army at age 26. If there were a textbook example of the potential for adult neural plasticity, Id be Exhibit A.
Learning math and then science as an adult gave me passage into the empowering world of engineering. But these hard-won, adult-age changes in my brain have also given me an insiders perspective on the neuroplasticity that underlies adult learning. Fortunately, my doctoral training in systems engineeringtying together the big picture of different STEM disciplinesand then my later research and writing focusing on how humans think have helped me make sense of recent advances in neuroscience and cognitive psychology related to learning.

How To Prepare For Calculus
First, fill any gaps in your math knowledge that may be essential to learning Calculus. This means Algebra and Trigonometry. Do this before your Calculus course begins. Once youve started class, read the syllabus. Do your best to learn the assignment list for the list so you can start getting ahead on your homework.
Yes, you heard that right. Its not enough to simply do your homework on time. At least not if you want to really excel. Not to mention, if youre a week ahead on all your assignments, whats stopping you from taking a week vacation right in the middle of the semester? Not much. More importantly, you have some room just in case of some sort of emergency. Stuff does happen.
