This is a great and fun tool to help children practice their math facts and become more fluent. Each game begins with an option for students to read instructions which explain what players are to do, how they are to do it, and the goal of the specific game theyre playing.

Progression through games is achieved through players solving mathematical problems with correct answers moving the player forward and through any obstacles the game may possess.

Some games are quick-fire games and require players to enter responses to equations before time runs out or their character is knocked off the screen.

In short, Reflex Student is a safe for kids app that challenges students to think on their toes in a fun, easy to use gaming format.

    Would I Buy Reflex Again

Yes. In 2021 we purchased Reflex again via the Time4MathFacts portal. Our daughter, who had previously used Reflex to learn her addition and subtraction facts, was ready to master her multiplication facts.

Unfortunately, the price of Time4MathFacts is more expensive than what we had previously paid for Reflex. As a homeschooling family with four children, we would love a family option or sibling discount for Time4MathFacts. My other children desperately want to play the math games again, but I cannot justify the price of additional student accounts.

Based on our initial experience of using Reflex, I know that my daughter will eventually tire of it. This happened when we first purchased Reflex for three of our children in 2018. That being said, she is enjoying it and is making steady progress with her multiplication and division facts.

    How Rocket Math Corrects Errors

comparison of two screen shots from Rocket Maths math facts app

Rocket Math, however, requires the student to remember the answer. When a student answers incorrectly, the screen turns orange, and Mission Control displays and recites the correct problem and answer. In the pictured situation, Mission Control says, Seven times nine is sixty-three. Go again. Then the answer clears, and the game waits for the student to enter the correct answer. Under these conditions, the student has to listen to the correction and remember the answer, so they can enter it correctly.

Once the student correctly answers that target problem, the app presents the problem again. Then it presents it twice more interspersed with other problems.

If the student answers the previously missed problem correctly within the three seconds, the game notes the error, and the student continues through the phase. If the student fails to answer the problem correctly again, the correction process repeats until the student answers correctly. Having to listen to and remember the answer, rather than just copy the answer, helps students learn better.

    How Xtramath Corrects Errors

    Reflex 1.0

On the left, you can see the XtraMath correction is visual. If a student enters the wrong answer, the app crosses the incorrect answer out in red and displays the correct answer in gray. A student then has to enter the correct answer that they see. This is a major mistake. In this case, students dont have to remember the answer. They just have to enter the numbers in gray.

    Logging In To Reflex Forcecom

To log into Reflex, go to www.reflexmath.com and select Login from the upper right hand corner of the screen. When prompted, enter your teachers Username. For Home Users, the teachers username will be the same as the Educator accounts username. Select the name of your Class, and then choose your name from the list of students.

    Delving Into Fluency Reports

Now that your students are progressing towards fluency, you can start making use of the abundant reporting facilities in Reflex. These reports help you track usage and progress for both individuals and groups, from a variety of viewpoints. To access the reports, go to your dashboard and click Reports. From here you can look at group reports for a class or individual student reports.

In the Fact Detail reports, for example, you can see precisely which facts and fact families each student has learned. Plus you can see how fluency has evolved over time using the arrows in the upper-left corner, under the student’s name.

Students can see their own fact family pyramid and fact grids by hovering their cursor over the avatar in the bottom-right of the screen, then clicking on the icon of four boxes.

You can monitor student fluency and its relationship to usage by means of the Fluency Growth report. This is great for RTI progress monitoring.

The blue line represents the student’s number of fluent facts on each day. You can change the scope of the report with the “Date Range” menu. The green horizontal line is the 100% fluency mark.

In addition to individual reports, you can access group reports as well to check on the usage and progress of your class as a whole. Take a look at the Reflex Teacher Guide for additional pointers and tips on using reports.

    What Is Reflex Student

Formerly known as Reflex Math, the Reflex Student app helps students in grades 2-8 with a basic mathematical foundation practice concepts for math fluency.

Its important to note that Reflex Student is only available for iPads and while advertised for free, requires a $35 annual subscription to use. Reflex Student is rated for users ages four years and older and does not feature any additional in-app advertisements or purchases.

Reflex Student is used by many school districts and homeschoolers to aid students in developing math fluency. Students should have a foundation in mathematical concepts before using the Reflex Student app as its not meant to teach concepts but instead, its intended to provide fun exercises to enhance mathematical skills in concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

In a sense, the Reflex Student app is a digital and more interactive way for students to practice and memorize mathematical concepts than the paper flashcards of old.

When students first log in, they meet a character named Crabby, who guides them through the game. The first thing Crabby will instruct students to do is to create an avatar for the game which is customizable with options such as girl or boy, skin color, face, clothes, and accessories.

Once students create their avatar, theyre able to proceed to the games. Games in Reflex Student are opened as students complete levels and subsequently level up through the practice exercises.

I’m Getting Black Screen / White Screen When I Open Reflex Math

How to: Enable & Use Nvidia Reflex | New | Complete Crash Course

It is one of the most common problem in android operating system. Usually when you open an app, you will see a black screen for few seconds and then app will crash with or without an error message. There are few ways to fix this problem.

  • Most of the times, it might be a temporary loading issue. You just need to press the recent applications menu in your phone. Then you close the app that has this issue. Now open the app again. It may work normally.
  • Try Hard reboot in your Android mobile. Press and hold down the “Home” and “Power” buttons at the same time for upto 10 seconds. Then, release the buttons and hold down “Power” button until the screen turns on.Now you can try opening the app, it may work fine.
  • If none of the above working, you can wait till your phone battery drains and it turns off automatically. After that put it to charge, and press the power button. It may work after this.
  • Finally, if you can’t fix it with anything, you may need to uninstall the app and re-install it. Android usually restores all settings after you re-install and log into the app. You can see if that fixes it.
  • Even in some rare cases, the re-install step also don’t work. If that is your case, try installing older versions of the app. Good luck!

    How Xtramaths App Gives Feedback

XtraMaths charming Mr. C narrates all of the transitions between parts of each days lesson. He welcomes students, says he is happy to see them, and updates students on their progress. He gives gentle, generic feedback about how youre getting better and to remember to try to recall the facts instead of figuring them out. However, his feedback remains the same no matter how you do. In short, it is non-contingent feedback, which may not be very meaningful to students.

How Rocket Maths App Gives Feedback

Differing from XtraMath, Rocket Math offers students a lot of feedback that is contingent. Contingent feedback means that students will receive different types of feedback depending on their responses.

The Rocket Math app gives positive feedback for all the 78 accomplishments noted above. It also doles out corrective feedback when the student isnt doing well.

As noted above, students receive corrective feedback on all errors. They get feedback when they take longer than three seconds to answer too. The Times Up screen on the right pops up, and Mission Control says, Ya gotta be faster! Wait. Listen for the answer. And then the problem and the correct answer are given. Students get a chance to answer that fact again soon and redeem themselvesproving they can answer it in 3 seconds.

The app tracks errors, and three errors mean the student needs more practice on this part. The doors close . The student is given encouragement that they have defeated three hard problems and a challenge to Keep Trying if they are tough enough. At that point, the go screen appears, and the student has to hit go to open the doors and try it again.

When it comes to recognizing a students success, the Rocket Math app holds nothing back. After a student completes a phase, one of the cast of voices gives enthusiastic congratulations, as noted above.
