As a psychology student, you have the opportunity to work in a research lab under the supervision of a psychology faculty member. Research experience strengthens an undergraduate degree and is strongly recommended for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology, as well as for students desiring to develop research skills as part of their career preparation. Participation in research opportunities can help you test your interest in research and interact more closely with faculty members who share your interests. Students can earn academic credit for assisting with research by enrolling in Psychology 4998.

Master’s Degrees In Psychology
A master’s degree in psychology requires at least two years of graduate level coursework beyond the undergraduate level.
Professionals with a master’s degree sometimes work in mental health under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. Master’s programs can also prepare students to become industrial-organizational psychologists, although many choose to continue on to earn their doctorate.
The competition to get into graduate psychology programs can be tough. Although it is possible to get into psychology graduate school if you have an undergraduate degree in a non-related topic, having a bachelor’s degree in psychology can boost your chances of admission. Strong grades and a good score on the GRE and GRE Psychology Subject test may also boost your chances of earning a spot in a psychology graduate program.

G.E. certified courses that are equivalent to PSYCH 10 and PSYCH 42 taken at another CSU campus or a public California community or junior college may be applied to the major. Courses that meet both major and G.E. requirements require adjustment of elective hours to reach the 120 unit total requirement. Human services, collectively, are an interdisciplinary set of social assistance programs that include everything from healthcare and counseling services to food and shelter offered through government and nonprofit agencies and designed to contribute to the welfare and happiness of communities by delivering a broad range of help and support to individuals and families.

Before the rise of positive psychology, research centered on abnormal behavior. The focus was on what was wrong with people and how to fix them.
Positive psychology researchers concern themselves with what works in peoples lives. They want to know how to increase those experiences so that people can thrive and flourish.

What Is The Meaning Of Kindness
Is kindness simply the act of being nice to someone or is there more to it? How is it the same or different than altruism? Can a person be kind without wanting something in return? Is being kind a service to others, to self, or both?
These are the questions posed by philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, and theologians. No one has the answers, but many have attempted finding insights through experiments. These experiments seek to better understand what drives altruistic behavior in individuals.
Some researchers have found that humans seek cooperation. We want to get along. When tested using a Public Goods Game approach, Rand, Greene, and Nowak learned that faster decisions led to more cooperation. From their perspective, this happens because longer decision making involves careful deliberation. When were asked to make a decision right now our actions are more intuitive.

It is a benevolent and helpful action intentionally directed towards another person, it is motivated by the desire to help another and not to gain explicit reward or to avoid explicit punishment.
The desire to help another makes one think of compassion which involves taking action to reduce suffering.

Bachelor’s Degree In Psychology
A bachelor’s degree in psychology is an undergraduate-level degree that typically takes four years to complete. At many universities, students can choose between a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. Generally speaking, B.A. degrees tend to require more liberal arts general education courses, while B.S. degrees require more science general education courses.
In most cases, there is a much wider range of job opportunities in psychology for those with a graduate degree. However, a bachelor’s degree serves as a solid basis for further graduate study in psychology and does offer a limited selection of entry-level career options.
According to one survey, only about 27% of people with a bachelor’s in psychology end up working in a field closely related to their degree. Sociology, while not the same as social work, includes the study of race, culture, organizations and gender. These topics all play pivotal roles in communicating with diverse populations in a social worker capacity. Having a sociology major can provide you with the skills to work with or manage cases in a variety of different environments. Additionally, sociology as a major can prepare you for a graduate program in social work.
