# How To Prepare For Sbac Math

## Practice For The Sbac Math Test

Preparing for the SBAC Common Core Math Assessment

The SBAC Math test is one of two sections appearing on the SBAC exam. Understanding the testits structure, content, and question typesis a necessary factor in the preparation process. Just as all the SBAC forms of assessments adhere to the Common Core Standards, the SBAC Mathematics summative assessment does the same. The Summative SBACs are given to students in elementary school years, carry through , and are given a final time in grade 11. Exposure to SBAC practice tests throughout these years is key to ensuring success on the SBAC Math test as well as the SBAC test as a whole.

To adhere to the Common Core Standards, the SBAC board of educators designed a list of content claims and target claims that guide each test question. Understanding these content claims and targets is another component that can positively influence your child’s results on the SBAC Math test.

## How To Pass The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Assessments Using Our Easy Step

Dear Friend,

On a beautiful late spring afternoon, this past year, a young woman received some devastating news. She had just gotten back her SBAC test result. It was not what she had hoped for. In fact, it was not even close to her expectations despite her past experience and educational background.

Then she remembered her friends and felt even worse. She did not look forward to having to tell them her embarrassing news, especially after she had boasted that it was no big deal. She had been procrastinating about taking the exam because she hated standardized tests, and this only confirmed her hatred.

“What will I do now?” she thought with dismay, slowly realizing the harsh reality of her predicament and its upsetting implications on her future.

## What Is Smarter Balanced

The Smarter Balanced tests were designed by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium , a consortium of 15 states, one territory, and the Bureau of Indian Education. SBAC members cooperate to develop and continue improving assessments that are aligned with the rigorous Common Core State Standards.

These assessments consist of two parts: a computer adaptive test and a Performance Task. With the computer adaptive test, questions become easier if students are struggling and more difficult if a student is performing well. This allows for a more accurate and precise test score.

Performance Tasks take about 45 minutes to complete and prompt students to apply grade level appropriate skills and knowledge, as well as critical thinking and problem solving, to respond to complex real-world problems.

Question types include:

• Selected response items
• Constructed response items
• ## What Salary Can I Expect

There is a fairly clear correspondence between your level of education and the salary you can earn when on the job. Estimated salary averages published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that people with a high school diploma, but no college, average around \$700 per week in earnings. Some college or an associates degree can bump those earnings up to about \$800 per week. Add on a bachelors degree, and there is a larger increaseto over \$1100 weekly.

## What Happens During The Sbac Assessment

As previously stated, the specific testing experience will vary for each student. That said, every test is administered in a computerized format at a participating school or testing facility. This guarantees that the content of each test remains consistent for every student in a given grade level. Both the periodic test and the summative assessment are administered in the same way. For more information on test administration, consult the Department of Education website for your state.

#### Steve had to pay a library fee. The amount he paid is shown below. How much did he pay?

There are 2 dollar bills, which represent 2 dollars. There are also 2 quarters, 2 nickels, 1 dime, and 4 pennies. Two quarters are worth \$0.50 since each is worth \$0.25 , 2 nickels are worth \$0.10 since each is worth \$0.05 , 1 dime is worth \$0.10, and 4 pennies are worth \$0.04 since each is worth \$0.01. The sum of the coins can be found by writing: \$0.50+\$0.10+\$0.10+\$0.04, which equals \$0.74. The sum of the two dollar bills and the coins can be written as: \$2.00+\$0.74. Thus, he paid \$2.74.

Each figure has 3 more squares than the previous figure, so adding 3 to the number of squares in the previous figure yields the number of squares in the next figure. Thus, he will use 14 squares for Figure 5, 17 squares for Figure 6, 20 squares for Figure7, 23 squares for Figure 8, and 26 squares for Figure 9.

#### A teacher donates to a local charity. Each year, she donates three times the amount donated the previous year. If the teacher donated \$2 the first year, how much did she donate during the fifth year?

SBAC assessment eligibility is dependent on grade level and state membership. The SBAC assessment is administered to students starting in the 3rd grade. Any student that has not reached the 3rd grade will not be eligible. The cut-off for SBAC assessment administration is the 11th grade.

This means that any student in their senior year of high school will no longer be eligible to take the test.

## Sbac English Language Arts

Smarter Balanced tests have content claims, which are basically statements about the skills students must demonstrate to perform well on the exam.

For the ELA exam, the overall content claims are:

• Grades 3-8: Students can demonstrate progress toward college and career readiness in English language arts and literacy.
• Grade 11: Students can demonstrate college and career readiness in English language arts and literacy.
• Of course, those are some pretty general statements. How exactly can students demonstrate college and career readiness in English language arts and literacy?

This is where SBAC ELAs four specific content claims come in:

• Reading: Students can read closely and analytically to comprehend a range of increasingly complex literary and informational texts.
• Writing: Students can produce effective and well-grounded writing for a range of purposes and audiences.
• Speaking and Listening: Students can employ effective speaking and listening skills for a range of purposes and audiences.
• Research/Inquiry: Students can engage in research and inquiry to investigate topics and to analyze, integrate, and present information.
• How are these skills measured by the SBAC ELA?

To demonstrate Reading skills, students are expected to read a variety of grade-level appropriate texts, both literary and informational. Students may be required to compare, integrate, and analyze information from multiple texts.

Reading comprehension questions may focus on:

## Warning: Always Look For These 6 Criteria

There is a lot of confusion surrounding studying for the SBAC test, and standardized tests in general. In our opinion, these are the 6 criteria you should always look for in a study guide for the SBAC test:

One: The guide must be written by writers who have painstakingly researched the topics and concepts needed to succeed on the SBAC test. The blind cannot hope to lead the blind.

Two: The guide must be written in easy-to-use everyday language so all test takers can access the information.

Three: The guide must be to-the-point, with no fluff to distract the test taker from the truly important information.

Four: The guide must address the test first, the material second. If the material was the only thing that was important, then every test taker that understood the material should get a perfect score. That doesn’t happen because there’s a difference between simply knowing what’s on the test and the way you perform on the test. You want a study guide to close that gap.

Five: The guide must motivate the test taker to actually study for the exam. If the guide is hard to read, the time spent studying will be slow and painful, and the results will be meager.

Six: The guide must be guaranteed. If you don’t pass with flying colors, you get your money back, no questions asked.

## The Three Reasons To Believe What We Say

The First Reason:

Our company’s name is Mometrix Test Preparation, and we have a team of standardized test researchers who have worked on developing our study guides for the SBAC test. The standards for who gets to work on the team are very strict. We demand the best for our customers, and only those who met our exacting standards made the cut. The dedicated research staff have years of combined experience in mastering the content and skills necessary to succeed on the toughest exams.

The Second Reason:

Some academic studies have revealed that test takers do not really benefit from the traditional test preparation process. But we knew there had to be a solution. If test takers were not doing well on the SBAC test despite high intelligence, there had to be a set of secret keys to the test that would open the door of success for these test takers.

We believe we have succeeded in finding the secret keys of the exam. What we found was surprising, and in some cases ridiculously simple once explained to the average test taker.

We put the findings together in a thorough, concise study guide that we believe allows any test taker, at any skill level, to improve his or her results dramatically with a minimum of effort.

The Third Reason:

We created the product in part because we were frustrated by the options available to test takers who really wanted to do well on the SBAC test.
