Hi everyone, thanks for reading my bio.

My name is Kevin, and I am a strong believer that anything you set your mind to you can accomplish, whether it’s learning web

development, how to cook, or Math in order to change your career path or it maybe learning for fun in order to build cool/fun things.

The only thing I enjoy more than learning web development and building projects from the skills I learn is teaching others how to

achieve the same by creating a learning environment that helps varying levels of developers gain a better understanding of topics by

doing what engineers do best taking a complex problems and breaking it down to small learnable simple steps.

I feel qualified to teach you how to learn the things I teach because I struggled very much just as you may be

struggling and that helped me push myself to learn how to learn and break very complicated topics into very small simple steps that

will help you learn anything you’d like.

It Only Takes About 42 Minutes To Learn Algebra With Video Games

On average, it took 41 minutes and 44 seconds for students to master Algebra skills during the Washington State Algebra Challenge using the DragonBox App.

The Challenge, co-sponsored by Washington Universitys Center for Game Science and the Technology Alliance included 4,192 K-12 students. Together, they solved 390,935 equations over the course of 5 days in early June. According to the Challenges calculations, thats 6 months, 28 days, and 2 hours worth of algebra work.

Whats even more impressive, of those students who played at least 1.5 hours, 92.9% achieved mastery. Of those students who played at least 1 hour, 83.8% achieved mastery. Of those students who played at least 45 minutes, 73.4% achieved mastery.

Why didnt this exist when I was a kid? I hated algebra. I was terrified of variables. I avoided it at all costs. Now, I find myself playing DragonBox for fun.

I was blown away. I felt like I glimpsed a future in which kids love to learn. I imagined schools full of enthusiastic kids discovering that both life and work can be play. If DragonBox could make algebra exciting, what else could we expect from interactive learning? Ive been exploring the space ever since, meeting some incredible people with big hearts and huge dreams for the future of education.

I quickly typed an email to Huynh to see what he thought.

Jordan: Broadly speaking, why is algebra important?

How To Learn Pre Algebra Step

Whether you are anticipating taking a pre-algebra class in the future, are struggling with a current pre-algebra class, or need to master the basics to enter a beginning algebra class, learning pre-algebra step-by-step can help you understand the material that you will build on in later courses. Trying to go too fast and skimming over the basics can hurt your understanding of more complex problems later on. Therefore, working methodically through pre-algebra material will help you progress in a more productive way.

Study numbers and their properties. Though students who are ready for pre-algebra will already be familiar with basic functions and operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, a good knowledge of more complex numerical operations and properties, such as decimals, square roots, negative numbers, and integer properties, will prove to be invaluable in algebra studies later on.

Work with ratios and proportions. Students may already be familiar with basic ratios, which describe the relationship of one amount to another, and proportions, which compare ratios, but may need to practice these concepts to work with them at a more advanced level. Problem sets, online practice, and diligent corrections will help prepare students for the more complex problems they will soon encounter.

Learning algebra can seem intimidating, but once you get the hang of it, its not that hard! You just have to follow the order for completing parts of the equation and keep your work organized to avoid mistakes!

Learning To Solve Equations By Canceling

How to Learn Algebra (with Pictures)
  • 1Try to get the variable by itself in algebra equations. Solving an equation in algebra usually means finding out what the variable is. Algebra equations are usually set up with numbers and/or variables on both sides, like this: x + 2 = 9 × 4. To figure out what the variable is, you need to get it by itself on one side of the equals sign. Whatever is left on the other side of the equals sign is your answer.
  • In the example , to get x by itself on the left side of the equation, we need to get rid of the “+ 2”. To do this, we’ll simply subtract 2 from that side, leaving us with x = 9 × 4. However, to keep both sides of the equation equal, we also need to subtract 2 from the other side. This leaves us with x = 9 × 4 – 2. Following the order of operations, we multiply first, then subtract, giving us an answer of x = 36 – 2 = 34.
  • 2Cancel addition with subtraction . As we just saw above, getting x by itself on one side of the equals sign usually means getting rid of the numbers next to it. To do this, we perform the “opposite” operation on both sides of the equation. For instance, in the equation x + 3 = 0, since we see a “+ 3” next to our x, we’ll put a “- 3” on both sides. The “+ 3” and “- 3”, leaving x by itself and “-3” on the other side of the equals sign, like this: x = -3.

    Sharpening Your Algebra Skills

  • 1Use pictures to make problems clearer. If you’re having a hard time visualizing an algebra problem, try using diagrams or pictures to illustrate your equation. You can even try using a group of physical objects instead if you have some handy.XResearch source
  • For example, let’s solve the equation x + 2 = 3 by using boxes
    x +2 = 3
    + =
At this point, we’ll subtract 2 from both sides by simply removing 2 boxes from both sides:
    +- =-
