Mathematics vocabulary word wall cards provide a display of mathematics content words and associated visual cues to assist in vocabulary development. Absolute Value: Always a positive number, absolute value refers to the distance of a number from 0.

Algorithm: A procedure or set of steps used to solve a mathematical computation.

Area: The two-dimensional space taken up by an object or shape, given in square units.

Array: A set of numbers or objects that follow a specific pattern.

Attribute: A characteristic or feature of an objectsuch as size, shape, color, etc.that allows it to be grouped.

Average: The average is the same as the mean. Add up a series of numbers and divide the sum by the total number of values to find the average.

Base: The bottom of a shape or three-dimensional object, what an object rests on.

Base 10: Number system that assigns place value to numbers.

Capacity: The volume of substance that a container will hold.

Triangles Based On Angles

Acute Angled Triangle

An acute triangle is a triangle whose all three interior angles are acute. In other words, if all interior angles are less than 90 degrees, then it is an acute-angled triangle.

Right Angled Triangle

A triangle is said to be a right angled triangle if one of the angles of the triangle is a right angle, i.e. 90o. Suppose, we have a triangle, ABC where ABC = 90o. Then such a triangle is called a right angled triangle which would be of a shape similar to the below figure.

Obtuse Angled Triangle

Obtuse triangles are those in which one of the three interior angles has a measure greater than 90 degrees. In other words, if one of the angles in a triangle is an obtuse angle, then the triangle is called an obtuse-angled triangle.

There are two types of geometric shapes: two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometric shapes. Two-dimensional shapes are closed figures with a length and a breadth such as square, and rectangle. Three-dimensional shapes are also closed figures that have a length, a breadth, and a height, such as cuboid, and cube.

    Scalene Triangle

    A triangle is said to be a scalene triangle if none of its sides is equal. If none of the sides is equal, then the angles are not equal to each other.

    Isosceles Triangle

    A triangle is said to be an Isosceles triangle if its two sides are equal. If two sides are equal, then the angles opposite to these sides are also equal.

    Types Of Geometric Shapes

    In geometry, when an object or a shape is not connected with both ends, it is considered an open geometric shape. When an object or a shape is connected with both ends it is considered a closed geometric shape. There are two types of geometric shapes, classified as:

    • Two-dimensional: These are 2D shapes that have only the x-axis and y-axis. They are flat structures with 2 dimensions. For example, triangle, square, rectangle, etc.
    • Three-dimensional: These are 3D shapes that have an x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. The z-axis represents the height of the object. They are solid structures with 3 dimensions. For example, cube, cuboid, etc.

    To draw any of these geometric figures, we have to start with a line, a curve, or a line segment. Thus, based on the number and arrangement of the lines we can make different types of geometric shapes and figures, for example, by joining four line segments a rectangle shape is formed. A triangle can be formed by joining three-line segments and so on.
